Wavelength

Privacy policy

Last updated: 14 October 2026

This policy explains what data the Wavelength app (« Longueur d'onde » in French) collects, why, how long it is kept and how to exercise your rights. It applies to the Android app and to this website.

1. Who is responsible for your data?

The data controller is GreenDroid Company, sole proprietorship of Olivier Orsola, 10 rue Jean Monnet, 78280 Guyancourt, France (see the legal notice). Contact: greendroid_contact@yahoo.com.

2. The data we process

DataPurpose
Google account: identifier, email address, first nameSign you in, recognise you, pre-fill your first name; email you when someone writes to you for the first time (can be turned off in My profile).
Profile: first name, date of birth, gender, gender sought, age range, distance, wish for children, smoking, bio, icebreakerShow your profile and apply search criteria both ways.
Photos (originals and one blurred version created by our servers)Reveal them gradually, only in conversations that meet the required conditions. Before publication, the publisher reviews the profile (photos and texts) to check it follows the rules. Whether your main photo shows a face is first checked on your phone: the photo is not sent anywhere for this.
Questionnaire answers, importance levels, optional answers and commentsCompute compatibility. Shown to others only if you agree (see 4).
Location: coordinates rounded to about 1 km, or postcode / city; country; time zoneSuggest nearby profiles and apply daily limits in your local time. Your location is never shown: others only see a distance rounded to 5 km steps.
Conversations, messages and read statusRun the messaging feature.
Subscription: Google Play purchase token, subscription status and end date, number of free conversations usedCheck with Google that the subscription is paid and apply the free conversations rule. Payment is handled by Google: we never see your bank details.
Reports (reason, comment, latest messages of the conversation concerned)Handle behaviour that breaks the rules and protect users.
Technical data: notification token, phone language, device identifier (ANDROID_ID)Send notifications in your language; limit multiple accounts created from the same device.

We do not sell any data, show no advertising and use no advertising trackers.

3. Sensitive data and consent

A dating app naturally processes information about your love life, and the gender you are looking for may reveal your sexual orientation. Some questions are also about intimacy. These are « special categories of data » under the GDPR: we only process them with your explicit consent, given when you create your profile, which you can withdraw at any time by deleting your account. Optional questions remain optional.

4. What other users see

  • Your first name, age, city and an approximate distance, your bio and your compatibility.
  • No photo at first contact: a neutral avatar. A blurred photo after 48 hours of conversation, then your real photos only if you both agree.
  • Your questionnaire answers, only if you agreed to show them, and only to people who did the same. You can change this in My profile › Settings.

5. Legal bases

  • Performance of the service you request (account, profile, search, messaging).
  • Explicit consent for the sensitive data described in section 3.
  • Legitimate interest for safety: fighting fraud and multiple accounts, handling reports.

6. How long we keep it

  • Your account, profile, photos and conversations: as long as your account exists. They are erased immediately when you delete your account.
  • A profile with no sign-in for a long time is no longer suggested to others; it can still be deleted at any time.
  • Anti-fraud fingerprints: when an account is deleted, we only keep two irreversibly hashed fingerprints (of the Google account identifier and of the device), for 3 years, so that the free period is not renewed by simply signing up again. They cannot be used to identify you.
  • Reports: 1 year after they are handled, to be able to react to repeated behaviour.
  • Server technical logs: a few weeks.

7. Where is your data stored?

We use Google Firebase (sign-in, messaging, photos, notifications, server functions) and Supabase (profile and compatibility database, hosted in Paris). Server functions run in the European Union. Some data may be processed by Google outside the European Union; such transfers are covered by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. To find a French town, the postcode is sent to the French public service geo.api.gouv.fr; outside France, city search uses the geolocation service built into Android.

8. Security

All exchanges are encrypted (HTTPS). Only our servers can access the profile database; your phone never accesses it directly. Original photos are never sent to another person before the reveal.

9. Your rights

You can access your data, correct it (directly in the app), delete it, ask for portability, object to processing or withdraw your consent. Write to greendroid_contact@yahoo.com from the email address of your Google account; we reply within one month. To delete your account, see this page. You can also lodge a complaint with your data protection authority (in France, the CNIL: www.cnil.fr).

10. Minimum age

The app is strictly for adults (18 and over). Any account belonging to a minor is deleted.

11. Changes

We may update this policy. In case of a significant change, we will let you know in the app.
